Devi’s Fall, known locally as Patale Chhango (The Underground Waterfall), is a spectacular landmark located in Ward 17, Birauta. Unlike most waterfalls, the water here doesn’t flow into a river; it vanishes into a deep, mysterious 500-foot underground tunnel.
The Legend of "Devis Fall"
The waterfall’s local name, Patale Chhango, translates to “Netherworld Falls” or “Hell’s Falls.” However, it is internationally known as Devi’s Fall (or Davis Fall) following a tragic accident on July 31, 1961. A Swiss trekker named Mrs. Davis was swept away by the sudden overflow of the Pardi Khola while bathing; her body was later recovered in the Phusre Khola river. Today, the site serves as both a spectacular natural display and a reminder of nature’s power.
