The Mystery Behind the Name
Known locally as Patale Chhango (meaning "Underworld Waterfall"), the site earned its popular western name following a tragic incident in July 1961. A Swiss tourist named Mrs. Davi was swept away by a sudden surge while bathing with her husband. The water dragged her into the underground tunnel. Her body was later recovered after intense searching, and the local community began referring to the spot as Davis Fall in her memory.
How the Underground Waterfall Works
Unlike typical mountain waterfalls that cascade down open cliffs, Davis Fall flows from Pardi Khola—the natural drainage stream flowing out of Fewa Lake. The water creates a dramatic surge that plunges into a deep natural canal around 500 feet long and 100 feet wide, completely disappearing beneath limestone rocks.
The water then travels through an intricate subterranean cavern system before emerging out of the nearby Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, located directly across the Siddhartha Highway.
